    Hi,
    This is such a pertinent analogy! Shawshank Redemption is one of my favorite movies and you've given it another level of meaning :-)
    Similar experience to you - eventually thinking my way out of christianity; and no, no-one could ever drag me back through the sewer into that prison again! Also liked your observation that many people claim to be christians but when pushed, are aetheists. This is always a relief to know! That the brainwashing of religion has its limits set by people's ability to think for themselves.
